The buzz at VMworld 2011

by Editor on September 16, 2011

This post is part of our Cloud Market Views series where we were reporting from the floor at VMworld 2011 in Las Vegas.

At the front of the VMworld trade show floor stood a studio called “The Cube” which was an interview space for executives, bloggers, and VCs to discuss issues and announcements at the show.

We pulled John Furrier, co-host of “The Cube” and founder of SiliconANGLE.com and SiliconANGLE.tv, out of his “Cube” to talk with us about what some of these smart people have been saying in his “on the floor” studio.

Here are some of Furrier’s highlights:

•    Big stories are agility, end user computing, and cloud (no surprise).

•    People want to move to the cloud faster than the market will let them move. While cloud has been dominant in test and DevOps environments, companies are eager to get them ready for market now. The question is what software will get them there faster, open source or commercial products?

•    Desktop virtualization has been renamed end user computing because the end user experience is primary. It’s been the major buzz at the conference.

•    While the CEOs are planning ahead and pitching future VM developments, people on the floor are concerned with today’s problems which are security, mobility of data, and deploying cloud in a secure multi-tenant environment.
