Virtustream Data Center is approved for use by U.S. Government Organizations
Bethesda, MD—February 20, 2012—Virtustream, Inc., a leading cloud solutions provider, today announced that its Vienna, Va. data center has earned a moderate level FISMA authorization and accreditation certificate. This accomplishment is further proof of Virtustream’s dedication to provide highly secure, high performance enterprise class cloud solutions for private, virtual private, hybrid and public clouds. This certification gives the federal government the confidence to move its solutions into Virtustream’s data center.
The Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) is a U.S. federal law designed to ensure the right balance of data security and data access. Providers are measured against a series of standards, metrics and tests implemented by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). A FISMA Moderate Authorization and Accreditation is a mark of guaranteed security and requires the implementation of an extensive set of security configurations and controls including documenting the management, operational, and technical processes used to secure the physical infrastructure. These processes and controls are then verified through third party audits.
“Achieving FISMA moderate authorization is an impressive accomplishment for our technology team and exciting for Virtustream as it sends a strong message to our federal and enterprise customers and prospects that Virtustream is committed to information security, reliability and availability of their IT infrastructure,” said Frank Vella, chief operating officer, Virtustream. “FISMA accreditation paired with Virtustream’s security standards and best practices will be critical in helping federal agencies build a case for leveraging a cloud solution.”
Virtustream today also announced G-Cloud certification, a U.K.-government approval for infrastructure-as-a-service and cloud services.
The moderate level FISMA accreditation is the latest addition to an ever-growing list of achievements including: SSAE 16 Type II, ISO 27001-2005 Information Security Management System, ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management, NHS N3 Connectivity (U.K.) and NHS N3 Certification (U.K.). Virtustream is also a member of the Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA).
